Geeking Out About: April

Mar 29, 2017

Oh geez, guys. I have fallen SO FAR behind on my blogging that I have no idea how to catch up now. At the beginning of the year, I told myself that I would post at least three times per week, but that sure as hell hasn't been happening. I keep debating whether or not I even want to keep blogging at all.

On one hand, I absolutely love the geeky gal blogging community. I feel like I've finally found my 'tribe,' and I don't want to just up and ditch these awesome ladies. But on the other hand, with school and work and everything else going on in my life, I really don't think I can devote as much time to this blog as I would like. I'm pretty sure I'm just overthinking everything. Plenty of people take blogging breaks from time to time, right? I need to stop focusing on what I'm not writing about and enjoy writing when I do have the time to do it.

At any rate, I definitely missed my Geeking Out About post for March, whoops. Luckily for me, April is jam-packed with fun things to look forward to!

Doctor Who: Season 10 - Season 10 is finally here! It's set to premiere on April 15th, and it's both Peter Capaldi and Steven Moffat's last season with the show. I'll be sad to see Capaldi leave, but I have high hopes that his last hurrah as the twelfth Doctor will be an awesome one.

Defy the Stars - April isn't looking like the best month for new YA book releases, but Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray definitely looks like one I'll be checking out when it drops on April 4th. I'm a sucker for sci-fi and hey, there may be a sentient robot? Sign me up!

The Dear Hunter/Coheed and Cambria - I'm seeing my very favorite band, The Dear Hunter, TWICE in April and I can't wait! I'll be watching them open for Coheed and Cambria's Neverender tour, then less than a week later my husband and I are driving eight hours away to watch them headline a show! I don't care how crazy that is, we love these guys so damn much.

Bill Nye Saves the World - I love me some Bill Nye, so I'll definitely be checking out this new Netflix Original. All thirteen episodes will be released on April 21st, and it'll be a talk show focusing on, duh, science=)

World of Warcraft: Noblegarden Event - Noblegarden is one of my favorite events in World of Warcraft, and it'll be back from April 17th to April 24th this year. I'll just be farming for the pets and the title this year, but I always have fun hunting for colored eggs and dressing my character up in bunny ears.

American Gods - Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite authors, so I have have super high hopes for this show! It's the TV adaptation of one of my favorite Gaiman novels, American Gods, and it's looking pretty dang cool based on the trailer. So many amazing actors, the visuals looks gorgeous...I just can't wait until April 30th!

Ghost in the Shell - Okay, technically this one's coming out on March 31st, but I figure that's close enough to April that I'm counting it=P I know about the controversy surrounding the whitewashing of Major, and while I won't deny that it's a big issue in the film industry, I'm still planning on watching this movie. I'm already reading some really mixed reviews on it, but overall it seems like it'll be a fun action movie to enjoy with the hubby.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return - I feel like it's been ages since I heard that MST3K was going to be revived, and I'm thrilled that we're finally going to get to watch it's epic return on April 14th. I adore Felicia Day and Patton Oswalt, and I'm excited to watch Jonah Ray as the new host.

Over to you!

What have you been geeking out about lately? Please share in the comments below, I feel like I'm way behind the times here!

Geeky Goodies: Girls in Games

Mar 13, 2017

Happy Monday, friends! I've been sick and miserable for the past couple of weeks, so I haven't felt much like blogging lately. To be honest, I haven't been doing much of anything aside from falling asleep on the couch surrounded by used-up tissues every night.

I started feeling much better over the past weekend though, yay! I went to a beer festival on Saturday, since even though I'm sick, the tickets were expensive and non-refundable soooooo obviously I still had to go. It was crazy fun and I even woke up feeling really good the next morning. Go beer!

I'm a few days late on this, but I wanted to chat a little bit about International Women's Day. Like many women, I couldn't afford to take a day off of work (especially after taking so much sick time), but it was definitely on my mind. Watching so many women stand up for change was such an inspiration, and I was thrilled to hear about Sony backing Girls Make Games, so I decided to devote a Geeky Goodies post to my favorite women in video games.

  2. Songbird & Elizabeth Print | Tiny Little Artist
  3. Life is Strange Iron-On Patch | Sunday Neek
  4. D.Va Neon Light | FanFit Gaming
  5. Lady Sylvanas Necklace | Gypsy Soul Sisters Shop

Over to you!

Who's your favorite female video game character? Unfortunately, video games with women protagonists are still in the minority, but I feel like the industry is slowly but surely making strides in the right direction. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Geek Girl Bloggers V-Day Card Swap

Mar 1, 2017

Happy Wednesday, friends. The lovely Natalie organized a geeky Valentine's Day card swap for the Geek Girls x Bloggers group, and it was such a blast! The swap made the holiday so fun for me, especially since it isn't one that my husband and all go all out for.

All of the cards and goodies I received were adorable, but I did want to show off a few of my favorites. A lot of the gals in this group are super talented and I was blown away by their drawings!

Opening this drawing from Dina totally made my day. It's so darn cute and I just loved seeing myself in anime form, basically=P I can't wait to see her drawings of the other girls in the group.

How awesome is this R2-D2 card from Grace? This was my hubby's favorite of the bunch!

I'm so obsessed with Pokémon that this card from Mii was absolutely perfect! I love the little happy face on the Pokéball, definitely made me smile.

This one wasn't handmade, but I still had to include it because I love Parks & Recreation so much! This one was from Natalie, and it was my favorite of the bunch. I legitimately might frame it and display it with my Treat Yo' Self card from Liana's shop, haha.

Thanks to all the ladies who joined in on the swap this year, and a big thanks to Natalie for putting it together! If you want some more Valentine's fun, check out my post from last year's swap here<3
