The Harry Potter Spells Book Tag

Jul 25, 2016

Recently, the lovely Kay of My Open Sketchbook tagged me for the Harry Potter Spells book tag, and I just had to join in! I'm not sure how I haven't managed to post anything Harry Potter related this month, especially since Megan of The Nerdy Girlie and Kristin of SuperSpaceChick are hosting Potter Month on their blogs right now. I figured this book tag would be the perfect way to join in on the fun! Just a head's up, there may be some spoilers, and there will definitely be a lot of fangirling.

An Upcoming Release You Wish You Could Get Your Hands On Right Now

I'm beyond excited for the fourth book in Kresley Cole's Arcana Chronicles! I flew through the first three books last year and have been itching for more ever since. Sure, there's a love triangle (or two...ugh) but I managed to fall in love with the story and the characters despite that and I can't wait to find out what happens next.

Favorite Series Starter

The Shatter Me series is one of my favorites, and I think a lot of that had to do with the first book. The way Juliette is introduced in the first few chapters is so unique, I was drawn right in!

A Book That Gave You All the Warm Fuzzies

Fangirl definitely had a lot of sad moments, but for the most part, this book gave me all the warm fuzzies! I could relate so much to Cath, and I pretty much just wanted to hug her constantly.

A Book That Made You Ugly Cry

This one made me cry for so many reasons. Of course, the deaths of some of my favourite characters tore me apart, but the biggest reason I cried so much thanks to Deathly Hallows was because it meant the end of a world that I had grown to love so much!

A Bookish Hero or Heroine You Want Around To Protect You In Real Life

Violet from the Creepy Hollow series is beyond badass! I'd love to have her around, not only because I know she'd have my back, but because she's so dang sassy too.

A Book You Wish You Could Make Everyone Read Because You Loved It So Much

I read John Dies at the End years ago, but it really stuck with me and I consider it to be one of my favorite books to this day. It's hilarious, creepy, and enlightening all at once, and I think everyone should give it a shot! Just a head's up, the title is a little misleading:P

A Book Series You Wish Never Ended

I thought the ending of the All Souls trilogy was perfect, but it still bums me out that I don't have more! I would love to follow along as Diana and Matthew finally get a chance to live on in peace.

A Book With an Uplifting Message

This book really surprised me. I'm not typically a fan of reading one-offs these days, but I read the synopsis for Luminous and figured I'd give it a try. I absolutely adored it! It's all about positive body image and self-love stuff, very uplifting!

A Book You Wish You Could Forget You Ever Read

I feel like I've made my feelings on the way the Divergent series ended clear enough in the past, so I won't go into hardcore rant mode right now. Long story short, I completely loathe this book. Not the series as a whole, mind you...just like, the last two chapters or so. Grrr.

An Author Whose Books Always Get You Out of a Reading Slump

I went through a reading slump right around when this book came out. I just hadn't felt like reading anything for about a year, which is way too long, right?! Anyway, thanks to Neil Gaiman, I got back into reading in a big way.
 photo 11_zpsajnege4z.jpg
A Swoon-Worthy Hero or Heroine

Yeah, I know I've already mentioned the Shatter Me series, but it's just so good! I was Team Warner all the way, because he's...ah, it's too hard to explain all the reasons why I love him, but he's just so dreamy. Definitely glad he got his happy ending!

A Book That Caused You to Stop Doing All Other Things Until Finished

Okay so...there are a lot of things I don't like about the Fallen series by Lauren Kate. When I read it though, I was completely obsessed. The first book hooked me in, and I had to get my hands on all four before I could think about anything else, haha! This series was what got me into YA fiction, so despite the little criticisms I have for the series, it holds a special place in my heart.

A Book That Was Painful to Read (For Whatever Reason) or That Broke You

I love everything John Green does, and this book was no exception. One of the two main characters though, the one written by David Levithan, reminded me so much of my little brother who passed away a couple years back that it was tough to get through. I definitely recommend it though, such an incredible read.

A Book That Had You Laughing Out Loud

Oh my gosh, you guys. The Gone-Away World is without a doubt one of the most unique books I've ever read. The story is CRAZY and darkly funny, and I think it's about time I give it a re-read because man, it's good!
 photo 15_zps5i2lvl6v.jpg
A Book That Made You Want To Send It Flying

This book is the worst. I still haven't decided if I'll read the next one in the series because this one was such a massive disappointment to me. I think I will since I really like some of the supporting characters, but I just couldn't stand Mare.
 photo 16_zpsbf5akbgg.jpg
A Bookish World You Wish You Could Visit

I'm currently reading through the Splintered series by A.G. Howard, and I'm so in love with her version of Wonderland! So creepy and twisted...I doubt I'd last long there, but it'd be a crazy fun trip:P
 photo 17_zpsyqpyisaq.jpg
A Book With a Shocking Twist or Ending

Pretty much the twistiest twist I've ever encountered. Thanks for basically changing my entire outlook on life, Stephen! Seriously though, the entire Dark Tower series is so epic and I couldn't imagine another ending to it.
 photo 18_zps2xuvtt2t.jpg
A Character Death That Destroyed You

Sirius Black, all the way. After all of the books I've read and all of the character deaths I've had to deal with, his tore me up the most. It was just so unexpected! I was in denial afterward for a long time too...I just loved Sirius so much.

Best Series Conclusion

Without a doubt, the Mortal Instruments is my favorite YA series and I think that this book wrapped it up perfectly! I remember putting it down and crying my eyes out because it was over and everyone was happy! Whew, I think this might have been the longest book tag I've ever participated in, but it was a lot of fun! I'm tagging:

No worries if this kind of post isn't your thing ladies, my feelings won't be hurt if you don't join in. And of course, if I didn't tag you but you want to participate, feel free! Please let me know if you do, I'd love to read your answers!

Anime Bento + Cratejoy Giveaway (CLOSED)

Jul 18, 2016

 photo animebento1_zpsyvu7dbn9.png

I was recently contacted by Cratejoy to review a couple of their subscription boxes in celebration of Fandom month, which they're celebrating the entire month of July! One of the boxes that they sent was the highly coveted Anime Bento, and I hopped on the opportunity immediately since I had been eyeing this subscription box for quite some time. As you all probably know by now, I'm a collector of geeky goodies, and this box definitely helped fuel my obsession for all things anime and adorable!

About Anime Bento

For those of you who haven't heard of Anime Bento, please allow me to enlighten you! It's a monthly subscription box filled with awesome anime goodies like collectibles, accessories, and snacks, all based on some of the best shows from Japan. In my opinion, it's a little on the expensive side, which is why I hadn't taken the plunge and subscribed before. Now that I've gotten a chance to check the box out for myself, I can say that it's definitely worth the price tag! Here's what was included in my box:

Kill la Kill Plushie

My favorite item was this adorable little plushie! It's Guts from Kill la Kill, which is an anime that I've only caught a few episodes of here and there. Guts is by far my favorite character though, because duh, he's adorable!

Fairy Tail Keychain

This keychain is pretty dang cute too! It's Gray Fullbuster from Fairy Tail, which I've just never been able to get into. Believe me, I tried...maybe I'll give it another shot, now that I've got some adorable Fairy Tail swag to show off. Have any of you watched this anime and recommend it?

No Game No Life Lanyard

How perfect are these itty bitty charms? I had actually never heard of No Game No Life before getting this box, but thanks to this super cute lanyard, I'll definitely be checking it out. Here's a tidbit about the show from Wikipedia:

The series follows Sora and his younger stepsister Shiro, two hikikomori who make up the identity of Blank, an undefeated group of gamers. One day, they are challenged by the god of games to chess and are victorious. As a result, the god summons them to Disboard, a reality which revolves around games. Intent on maintaining their reputation as the undefeated gamers, Sora and Shiro plan to conquer the sixteen ruling species and to usurp the god of games.

Sounds like something I could really get into!

Hi-Chew

I've always loved Hi-Chew! I'd say it's one of my favorite Japanese candies, so I was thrilled to see a bag of Hi-Chew Bites in my box! You can also see more of the No Game No Life lanyard in this photo. Too cute, right? The colors are so much fun! And even though I've never watched the show, I can totally relate to the sentiment. No game, no life indeed=P

There was also a tee, which I completely forgot to take a photo of. Whoops! It feels like a high-quality shirt, which is a major plus. I've gotten quite of few tees from subscription boxes that just felt like they would fall apart after a few wears, so I'm glad this one feels like it'll last a while.

Overall, I absolutely love this box! It's something that any anime fan would adore, and I'm so glad that Cratejoy asked me to review it. As if that isn't awesome enough, they're offering my readers a chance to win one month of a subscription box that the winner chooses! You could try out the Anime Bento for yourself, or you could select any of the hundreds of other boxes that Cratejoy offers. I'll be running the giveaway until the end of the month, so get those entries in! Good luck, friends<3

Geek Girl Bloggers: Funko Pop Swap

Jul 15, 2016

Rose Funko Pop

Recently, the always amazing Pepi of dePepi organized a fun Funko Pop swap within the Geek Girls x Bloggers Facebook group, and it was a blast! I know I've said this before and I'll say it at least a hundred more times on here, but the geek girl blogging community is just so amazing. If you're a geeky gal like me and you're looking for a group of like-minded people to connect with, hop on over to the Geek Girls x Bloggers! We're super supportive and I promise we won't bite=P

For this swap, we were partnered up and given a list of our swap buddy's most-wanted Pops, then told to go wild! Leave hints, tease at what your buddy was going to get...but keep it a secret! Alright, I'm not great with being subtle, so I just avoided that aspect of the swap altogether lest I spoil the secret=P But my partner, Kimi, did a fabulous job of teasing me! She sent over a photo of basically all the Pops from my list stacked up with the caption 'A little birdie told me you want these!' She's such a Funko fanatic that she already owned all of the Pops I wanted!! Too funny.

She ended up sending me the Rose Tyler Pop, which is absolute perfection! I had been wanting to get my Ten his ultimate companion for a while now, so I'm happy that Kimi chose her for me. I currently have her set up on top of my computer with Ten, the TARDIS, a Dalek, and my Dalek SecPops! I still want the rest of the baddies like the Weeping Angel and Cyberman Funkos, but they'll have to wait just a bit longer. For now, I'm just loving the way she looks with the rest of the group!

Funko Doctor Who

See? So cute. She feels like a well-made Pop, too. Not so top heavy that I think she's going to be falling over any time soon, and the painting on her is perfect! Usually my Pops have one or two blemishes, but I haven't found any noticeable ones on my Rose. Perhaps my favorite thing about my surprise from Kimi was this poem she included:

Funko Swap

Haha! It totally made my day when I opened up the package and read that. Awesome job, Kimi! I loved my gift and I hope she loved hers too. Be sure to check out her blog, Kimi Who, and let her know how wonderful and magical she is<3 So which Pops are you lusting after lately? Let me know, I'm always looking for more Funko to drool over!

6 on 6: It Was All Yellow

Jul 6, 2016

I can't believe that it's been a year since Emma of Scruffy Little Nerd Herder started up the monthly 6 on 6 prompt! We started last year on August 6th, and it's been so much fun watching everyone's photography skills get better and better each month. I haven't decided if I'm going to  continue with this prompt, but I think it's definitely one that can keep going and going! This month's theme was yellow, and I tried to go all out for it. Apparently I have a lot more yellow geekiness in my life than I realized because it was tough to narrow my photos down to just six!

 photo jordandene_zpsp5inqili.jpg

This shirt by Jordanden√© is so crazy soft! Seriously, it's one of the comfiest shirts I own, but I could say the same about all of my Jordanden√© tees<3 This one isn't for sale anymore, but it was a surprise bonus gift when I ordered my first shirt from this fantastic shop (thanks Jordan!). It's BRIGHT yellow, so I do turn a few heads when I wear it, but it's so much fun that I don't mind the extra attention.

 photo pikachu_zpsruns9fsk.jpg

I've had this Pikachu plushie for over a year and have included it on the blog a few times, but it's finally time to really show it off! Such a cutie, and absolutely perfect for this month's theme.

 photo sherlock_zpsmracwevw.jpg

Okay I'll admit it, I'm still not into Sherlock. I've given it a few tries and I'm just...not feeling it. I'll give it another go before I write it off completely, but I definitely love this headband and necklace!

 photo saganprint_zpsr0mwpfjp.jpg

This Carl Sagan print by Scott C is literally one of the coolest things I own. Oddly enough, I learned about this artist via my husband, who had never given too much thought to modern art before. We own three of his prints now, but this one is my favorite.

 photo watchmen_zpsttgguzhf.jpg

I say that I'm not really into comics...because this is the one comic-book series that I've actually read. Don't get me wrong, I know I'd be all about comics if I really put some effort into buying them, but I just haven't made the leap yet. Watchmen is one of my favorite stories, and I even enjoyed the movie! Though the ending kind of bummed me out since I was really looking forward to seeing the Squid on the big screen=P

 photo sushi_zpscwex0wc5.jpg

Sometimes the hubby and I do things besides work and play Overwatch! I snapped this shot at a fancy schmancy sushi bar in Palm Springs a couple weeks back and thought it fit this week's theme perfectly! Gary's japanese beer looks quite yellow in this photo, and my drink tasted like a lemon drop candy in liquid form! So yummy.

So there you have it! I've done twelve month's worth of 6 on 6 prompts and had a blast with all of them. If you're interested in checking out my past 6 on 6 posts, they're all here for you! My favorite of all the months was September, because duh, I'm crazy about purple! I did that post on my old blog, but I'll share it anyway because I really loved the photos. Which month was your favorite?
