We all pitched in to provide the items for this month's Golden Snitch Geeky Giveaway prize box.

Say Hello To...

Time to meet your lovely giveaway sponsors! It being a new year and all, Kimi asked a special question: What is one fandom you'd like to learn more about in 2016? These were our answers...

KIMI | Kimi Who? It might sound a little cliche right now, but I'd like to learn more about Star Wars. Seeing the new movie has really piqued my interest and I've found myself bugging my boyfriend with so many questions! I'm greatly enjoying learning about the Star Wars universe and old canon vs. new!

ANGIE | My So-Called Chaos I think maybe the outlander fandom. I read the first book and really liked it, but have gotten stuck trying to read the second and people are obsessed with the whole series.

JENN | The Diary of a Dreamer One fandom I'd like to learn more about this year? That is a really difficult question. Hmmm.... Either Batman (like Harley Quinn) or maybe Star Wars (I haven't watched the movies since 1-3 were in theaters) or Doctor Who (maybe pre-Christopher Eccleson).

HEATHER | The Nerdy Fox The one fandom I’d like to learn more about in 2016 is Sherlock. I haven’t been able to really get into it even though I know if I sat down and watched it, I’d be in love.

CHRISTINA | Cali Darling One fandom I'd like to learn more about in 2016 would have to be the Divergent series. I've seen the first one and definitely want to see the second one. I'd also like to read the books as well. I feel like Divergent would fit well into my current favorite fandoms of Harry Potter, Twilight, and Hunger Games!

MANDY | The True Ultimate Fangirl Officially One fandom I'd like to learn more about in 2016 is Deadpool. I already love all the trailers I've seen for the new movie, plus all I've heard about him as a character, because I'm a foul-mouthed, vulgar, twisted-sensed-of-humor kind of gal myself, and to find a character that is along those same lines is just freakin' fantastic! I can't wait to start buying comics and I just recently purchased my outfit for when I go and see the movie, so I'm psyched! There's nothing better than getting to be a geeky fashionista while learning about the "Merc With a Mouth".

ASHLEE | Her Geekery I'd love to learn more about Supernatural! I've heard so much about it and I've seen an episode here and there, but I've never taken the time to sit down and get into it. I'm especially intrigued by Jared Padalecki's 'Always Keep Fighting' campaign, which I think is what really sparked my interest in this massive fandom!

STACEY | Geeks & Lattes The Once Upon A Time fandom. I abandoned the show in S2 and now I regret it.

IMANI | I Puke Kawaii Let's go Wade Wilson. Deadpool comes outnxt month and I think more people should know him.

DANIELLE | From Girlie to Nerdy I'd like to learn more about (and hopefully watch) Sailor Moon this year. I missed the boat on that show as a kid and I love that it promotes girl power and has talking cats.

NICHOLE | Cuppa Geek I can't wait to get all caught up with Doctor Who and Torchwood. The show has changed my fandom life. I can't say I've ever been this crazy about a show before. Not even my horror shows. And I'm a huge horror geek. Doctor Who has everything romance, action, suspense, horror . . How could you not be obsessed?

LEAH | Girl Getting Geeky I think it might actually be Harry Potter for me. I'm not a great lover of the characters. Sorry! But I am a lover of the world.

VANESSA | 2 Dorks in Love We just started getting into Supernatural this month. I kept seeing raves all over my geek mom group and told my husband that I wanted to start catching up. I knew little there's Felicia Day in there somewhere, and I know Dean likes pie, ha ha. So far it's been great for the first season and a half!

KATY | Plays Well with Coffee I would love to learn more about the Sherlock fandom! I've heard nothing but good things about the show, so I'm totally stoked to jump into the whole thing!

JESSICA | Two Married Geeks The DC fandom. I'm more of a Marvel Gal myself.

KAYLY | My Open Sketchbook For me, I think I'd enjoy learning a bit more about the Marvel universe, in terms of character origins and whatnot. As a fan of the MCU, I'd really like to learn more about the comic history, especially as there are character movies coming out this year that I'd like to see but don't know much about (ie - Doctor Strange).

LIANA | Liana Art & Illustration The Star Wars universes (canon and not canon) and the new series they're putting out!

JESSICA | The Nifty Nerd I'd like to learn more about Firefly. People seem to love the series or think it's highly overrated. I fell in love with the movie, Serenity, when I first watched it, so I'd like to give the series (single season?) a chance!

MICHELLE | Geeked Out Girl The fandom I would like to learn more about is video games. Gamers seem so passionate about everything they do- from the games they play to the system(s) that they use. I would love to find a system and a game that I am so dedicated to that I actually play it through all the way to the end.

Time for a Giveaway!

Now that you've gotten to know the ladies, let's show you the goods! *Ahem* We mean the prizes of course.

Funko Fridays: Show & Tell

Jan 22, 2016

Well, I totally already failed at my goal of posting three times per week. I don't feel too bad about it since sometimes life just gets in the way, but it's still a little disappointing. I definitely couldn't skip out on this week's Funko Fridays though because it's time for another round of Show and Tell! This is my favorite theme since I can do whatever I want with it, like show off my super sweet Dalek Sec Funko. I couldn't pass this guy up when I saw him at Barnes & Noble because, come on, how could I resist this face?

So stinkin' cute. I snagged him when I was supposed to be shopping for Christmas gifts for my family, so I guess I pretty much have an addiction. The more Doctor Who Pops the better, though! That's my life motto.

Anyway, who else is super excited for the return of The 100? I don't have cable so I'll have to wait until I can watch it on the CW app, but I'm pretty psyched! Bellarke forever<3

Literary Lady: Illuminae & Instant Happy Journal

Jan 19, 2016

I've been really wanting to spread the love for all of the awesome books, shows, and games that I get into on a daily basis, because sharing is caring, right? Truth time: I don't know how to review things, so I'm not going to try and force it. I do, however, want to talk a little bit about why I love these books and why I think you might too!

Both of the books I'm talking about today were released back in October of 2015, so I'm definitely behind the times here. I'll have to step up my book reading game (I'm currently super into the second book of the Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater...I know, it's like I live under a rock), but for now I'm just hoping you haven't all read my favorite book this month:

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff! For those of you who haven't heard of it, here's the synopsis:

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto one of the evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again!

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.
Holy crap, you guys, I don't even know where to start with this book. I actually first 'read' it via audiobook, which was pretty entertaining despite the cringey voice acting. I ended up loving the story so much that I looked it up on Goodreads to rate it and discovered, thanks to reader reviews, just how much I was missing out on by not reading the hardcopy!

I don't want to spoil any of the awesome artwork in this book, but I did want to give you all an idea of its unique and fun format. The book in its entirety is styled as a dossier of files revealing a corporate conspiracy, and I was absolutely taken by how different it is. I loved getting to know Kady and Ezra through their snarky emails and IMs to each other, and I basically fell in love with AIDAN, the completely bonkers A.I. programmed to protect the fleet, through the beautifully artistic pages that portrayed his voice.

Something about the fictional baddies always draws me in, but the authors did a damn good job with this one considering AIDAN is a computer.  At first he was, you know, robotic and devoid of emotion, but he showed the best character development by far. I don't want to give away anything from the story, but all in all, it was so much fun! All of the characters were relatable and the story was action-packed with a super cool ending. I'm a sucker for a good space opera, but this one took the cake with all the sci-fi goodness. Also, zombies.

The second book I want to rave about today is actually not a book at all:P The Instant Happy Journal by Karen Salmansohn is a sweet little journal full of prompts designed to bring some instant happy into each and every day. Here's the synopsis:

Brighten your day with this colorful journal from happiness expert Karen Salmansohn. Jam-packed with 365 “happiness prompters” including motivational quotes, scientific studies, and thought-provoking questions, this journal amps up your ability to notice (and create!) moments of joy and gratitude in your life—one day at a time.

I don't know about this 'happiness expert' business since, I mean, doesn't that sound like make believe? But I really am having a lot of fun with the daily prompts, so maybe there's something to Karen's claims (full disclosure: I haven't read her book, Instant Happy: 10-Second Attitude Makeovers, so who knows, maybe she really is an expert on happy.)

Most of the prompts have been funny, thought-provoking, and sentimental all at once. There isn't a ton of room to write on each page, so it's been a nightly routine to sit and reflect on the prompt and my day for a few moments before moving on to World of Warcraft. I really feel like this journal is helping me manage my anxiety a bit and I love that it's getting me to pay more attention to all my feels.

I managed to get a copy of the Instant Happy Journal through Blogging for Books, which I heard about through the awesome Natalie of Natalie Patalie. It's a website that provides review copies of books in exchange for an honest review, and I'm stoked about how easy it was to sign up for and use! I wasn't super thrilled with the selection at first, but I pretty much stopped looking as soon as I came across this journal since I have a major thing for writing I'm hoping that my next look through the site will yield more fun finds!

Do you have any good book recommendations for a YA fantasy and sci-fi lover? I'm in the middle of two book series right now (Maggie Stiefvater's Raven Cycle and Sherrilyn Kenyon's  Chronicles of Nick) but I always love new suggestions!

Geeky Goodies: Spirited Away

Jan 12, 2016

I had such an amazing birthday weekend! I didn't end up getting to see my best friend, which was a bummer, but I did get to spend my time relaxing in Central California with lifelong family friends. It was beautiful and rainy and just what I needed!

If you didn't already know, I'm a huge Miyazaki fan. I mean, that should be obvious by the use of susuwatari (soot sprites) throughout my blog design, but I figured I'd point it out just in case:P This sweet drawing of Boh and Yu-Bird inspired me to scour Etsy for other adorable Spirited Away goodies!

Spirited Away was the first Miyazaki film I ever saw, so it holds a special place in my heart. It isn't my personal favorite, but it's definitely up there on my list of all-time best movies, and I'll always love me some No-Face<3 This is just a handful of the cute stuff I found!

  1. Spirited Away Washi Tape | 2FooDogs
  2. Spirited Away Posters | SchioStudio360
  3. Boh & Yu-bird Tea Infuser | Kawaii Polymer Studios
  4. Soot Sprite Plush Pillow | Kawaii Atama
  5. No-Face Resin Necklace | KawaiiJellybean
What's your favorite Miyazaki movie? Do you remember the first Miyazaki film you saw? They're all so dang good! Except...I do fall asleep every time I try to watch Porco Rosso. Any one else have that problem?

Funko Fridays: The Funko I Want Most

Jan 8, 2016

I'm so happy it's Friday! Tomorrow Gary and I are leaving bright and early for Central California to see some family friends and meet the new baby<3 Then on Sunday we're heading to Camarillo to see my very best friend and her hubby! And Monday's my birthday, so I'm pretty sure it's going to be a fabulous weekend.

Anyway, I'm loving this week's Funko Fridays theme! There are SO MANY super cute Funkos that I'd love to get my hands on, but the one I want most of all is this guy:

So pretty, right? This gold Illidan was released last year as an exclusive to Pop! Asia. Now, I'm definitely a Funko newb, but I do feel like spending $70 to $100 on a little vinyl figure is just not going to happen. He's pretty gorgeous though...I swear I'll have him someday!

I can't wait to see the pretty Pops! that you're all lusting after! Be sure to join the link-up by clicking on the banner below. Thanks as always to the lovely Kimi and Pepi for hosting, you ladies are fantastic!

6 on 6: Flash Those Pearly Whites

Jan 6, 2016

Happy Wednesday, everyone! It's time for another 6 on 6, and this month's theme is white. I own very few things that are entirely white because let's face it, white is a pretty boring color. I did manage to snap six photos of mostly white things though, so I'm sharing them with you all today!

Okay, I know my pretty kitty isn't entirely white, but look at her fluffy little lion's mane! I got this sweet girl from a friend, so we don't actually know what type of cat she is. She's probably a mix of breeds, but she looks an awful lot like a Siberian. That would definitely explain why my mother-in-law, who's super allergic to cats, has absolutely no problems living with her! Siberians are supposedly hypoallergenic, so we kind of lucked out with her<3

This crocheted hearthstone is one of my favorite geeky possessions! It was given to me by my pen pal through the IGGPPC...who I had a lot of fun writing to until she just stopped writing back to me. Bummer! It was definitely a fun experience while it lasted, but I'm still on the fence about signing up again. The next round of sign-ups begins on January 15th so I guess I'll try to figure it out before then.

I love this adorable wax warmer from Target! I mean seriously, it's shaped like an elephant! My husband and I have always had a thing for candles, so we figured we'd try out some wax melts instead. I'm really enjoying it so far! I like that we can choose different scented wax based on our moods, and even mix and match if we want.

This awesome portrait of Beetlejuice was drawn by Kay of My Open Sketchbook! I won him in a contest a couple months back and I'm still head over heels in love with how cool he looks. I have yet to buy a decent frame for him, so for now he actually hangs out in one of our fancy, unused wedding photo frames. It's silver and very shiny, so I took him out for the purpose of taking this picture:P Someday I'll have a pretty art gallery wall and you can bet your butt he'll be up there!

I recently stumbled upon an old bag full of washi tape that I had bought years ago, so that was a welcome surprise! I had bought these through Etsy, though I don't remember the shop. I'm pretty happy about how darn cute they are, and I'm excited to start using them in my planner!

Last but not least, here's my Doc Brown Pop! He's definitely been on the blog before, but I couldn't help myself. His white hair is perfect for this post! He was a Loot Crate exclusive Funko, so I'm glad to have gotten him before I cancelled my subscription. I've been thinking pretty hard about resubscribing since I do love getting cool geeky gear...but a goal of mine this year is to spend less on useless crap so I'll just be buying geeky stuff that I really really like instead, haha!

So that's my 6 on 6 for the month! Did any of you join in on the photo challenge fun? I'd love to see your photos!
