Funko Fridays: If I Could Only Keep One Funko...

Oct 30, 2015

...why, it'd be this adorable fella, of course! Okay, I'm sure this is a much more difficult decision for those of you with more than seven Pops, but for me, there's no question. My husband bought Ten and the TARDIS for me recently, and I absolutely adore them. Ten is my favorite Doctor (because David Tennant, nom) so I can absolutely say that of all seven of the Funko Pops that I own, I would choose Ten if I were forced to keep just one.

Side note, who else is super excited to watch David Tennant in Jessica Jones? I'm definitely psyched about the show for more reasons than just his pretty face...but come on, look how pretty:

Yes, I know he's supposed to be purple and people are having a fit over him being...well, not purple, but I'm still pretty dang excited<3

Anyway, back to the Funko fun! If you've never heard of Funko Fridays, you're seriously missing out. It's a new weekly link-up created by Kimi and Pepi, dedicated to our favorite vinyl figurines. If you'd like to join in, you totally should! Check out the upcoming themes here. Funkos are love, people!

A Day in the Life of a Lady Geek: October

Oct 28, 2015

Yay, it's finally time for our A Day in the Life posts! I've been excited for this ever since Dina mentioned it in the Female Geek Bloggers community last month, and I got even more excited when she officially announced it on her blog a couple weeks ago. The concept of this project is to pick a day and take a photo each waking hour. I took my photos this past Saturday since I work full time during the week and can't take photos at my place of work, so you all get to see how uneventful my weekends are, haha!

10 a.m.

As you can see, my first photo posted was from 10 a.m. Yeah, I sleep in on the weekends, don't judge me! I opened up my mail to find my TARDIS Funko waiting for me, and I figured that until the Doctor came to take his rightful place alongside his time machine, Doc could stand there for now=P I got my special edition Doc in this month's LootCrate, and he's so adorable!

11 a.m.

Time for coffee and writing in my journal! I try to write a little bit every day, it's great for relieving some of my anxiety. The coffee, on the other hand, completely contradicts that...but I love it anyway.

12 p.m.

I was still lounging around in my jammies, watching 30 Rock and loving the whole not being at work thing. This little lady came poking around for attention...she never likes it when I spend too long not loving on her.

1 p.m.

I had to include two photos for this hour because I couldn't resist that sweet face! I went to the backyard to work on my weekly planner, and was greeted by my doggy niece, Bailey. We were dog-sitting for the weekend and let me tell you, this girl is a handful! She's so adorable though that I don't mind being tuckered out after spending just a couple minutes playing with her, haha.

2 p.m.

I've been running the Halloween dungeon every day trying to get the super sweet Headless Horseman mount, but no luck so far. I did want to pose for some screenies with my Hallowed Helm and fun, decorated garrison that they added decorations this year!

3 p.m.

Does this happen to any of you kitty mamas? I'm just minding my own business, looking at blog stuff, and kitty plops right down on my keyboard. Such a brat!

4 p.m.

Alright, two photos again but how could I resist? She's such a stinkin' cutie, curled up on our patio furniture, just watching her people sit and relax. Still bright and sunny here in Orange County, shorts weather all day long! We love spending time outside on the weekends since we spend the majority of our weekdays inside.

5 p.m.

We went to a local restaurant called Slater's 50/50 to celebrate my sister-in-law's birthday. Gary and I are both vegetarian, and he always has fun coming up with names for our custom veggie burgers. He got a kick out of 'Western Vegan Cheeseburger' because, you know, vegans don't eat cheese. Haha...(eyeroll emoji)

6 p.m.

When we got home, we relaxed around the hookah for a while. I convinced my husband that we needed a frilly, pretty hookah and he actually went for it<3 I'm so in love with how adorable it is! Hookah's an awful habit though, so we try not to smoke it very often. Weekends only!

7 p.m.

Tres Leches cake for the birthday girl! It was SO GOOD. We actually still have some left over, and we've been eating tiny little slices since Saturday...yum. If you've never tried Tres Leches cake, you seriously need to. So moist and delicious!

8 p.m.

Time for beer and more relaxing in the backyard. I did stay up after 8 p.m. (I swear!) but it was just so dark and quite frankly, uneventful so I didn't take any more photos. I mean, unless you guys want to see what it's like when I stay up until two in the morning playing World of Warcraft? I could show you next time!

Really though, this was so much fun. I hope that I get to spend some time learning a little more about my fellow bloggers through your photos today! And if you didn't participate in this month's A Day in the Life, you should totally join in next month. Check out Dina's original post about this project here if you'd like to learn more about it=) Hope you're having a happy hump day!

Halloween Surprise from CuppaGeek!

Oct 21, 2015

Last Friday I received the best surprise from the lovely Nichole of CuppaGeek! I've been super stressed at work lately so these Halloween goodies were just what I needed.  Nichole had been nominated by Pepi for the Random Acts of Kindness award, where you do something awesome for a fellow blogger just because you can. Being the kickass lady that she is, she turned it into Random Acts of Tea-dom and I was lucky enough to receive one of her Great Pumpkin tea packages!

Firstly, look at how cute this little bag is! The skull cut-out and the Halloween-colored candy canes are adorable, but the bag is my favorite. I love the design and, although you can't see this very well in the photo, there's an orange and white stripey ribbon tying it perfect.

These amazing teas were waiting inside the bag for me. Look at how cute they are! They're all fandom teas by Geeky Teas, an amazing tea company based out of Burbank, CA. The teas included were the Goblin King blend, the Pumpkin King brew, the Earl Grey, Hot, and EquesTEA...all of which look delicious!

First, I wanted to try the Pumpkin King blend, since The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorite movies to watch this time of year and Jack Skellington is my king!

It smelled SO YUMMY while it was steeping...the cinnamon and pumpkin spice wafting through the air totally reminded me of Autumn (and made me wish that it were chilly and actually felt like Autumn here in Orange County...). P.S. look at my cute sloth tea steeper! He was a gift from my wonderful husband, and he always makes me smile as I'm impatiently waiting for my tea to steep to perfection.

The color was absolutely gorgeous. I'm not going to lie, I don't know a ton about tea. I rarely manage to steep tea for the correct length of time and it always turns out bitter, but this turned out great! The spices weren't over-the-top, but they packed enough flavor to make this blend jump to my top five favorite teas!

It looks so pretty in my tea cup, but I couldn't resist gulping it down after it cooled a bit.  I definitely recommend this tea, it's the perfect Halloween cuppa! Next I'm going to try the Goblin King blend, which includes strawberry & apple pieces, apricots, raspberry leaves, and other yummy goodies.

If you've never visited Nichole's blog, CuppaGeek, you really should. She's a tea fiend and a geeky gal to boot, and she's incredibly sweet<3 She's one of my favorite bloggers, and I love learning about tea from her. I've always liked tea but I never invested much time in learning about it until I happened across her blog, so if you're interested in tea you should definately take a look at her blog! And if you don't care about tea but you appreciate geeky ladies, well, you'll still love her=) Anyway, I'm just about finished watching the entirety of 30 Rock, so I'm trying to decide between watching Sherlock or Supernatural next. Which do you recommend?

Geeky Goodies: Favorite Witches

Oct 19, 2015

With Halloween less than two weeks away now, I'm really starting to get excited! I'm not especially into being scared...anxiety does not mesh well with that. However, I do enjoy all of the cute spooky things that Halloween brings, and I wanted to share a little of that with you today<3 There are so many fabulous witches in pop culture that I figured doing a Geeky Love post devoted to some of the cute witch items on Etsy would be perfect for this time of year. Take caution though, these adorable items will put a spell on you! (har har...)

  1. Hermione Granger Pin | Hello Quirky
  2. Kiki's Delivery Service Watercolor Poster | Penelope Love Prints
  3. Maleficent-Inspired Bow | Extra Sweet Bowtique
  4. Hocus Pocus Mug | Farizula Designs
  5. Melissa Joan Hart Cameo Necklace | Kitsch Bitch Jewellery

Today's the first day in what has felt like ages that the weather has been under 80° F, but it won't last next week=(  I would say that maybe we'll get some relief once El Niño hits in full force, but I'm not exactly looking forward to the flooding, mudslides, and venomous sea snakes (aaaah!). At least today I can curl up under a thin blanket and drink some tea by the fireplace, as my husband and I like to pretend it's cold enough to use the fireplace sometimes.

Speaking of my husband, it's his birthday tomorrow! We don't really go all out for birthdays in this family, but my mother-in-law will be making her delicious Soyrizo Mac & Cheese to celebrate the occasion and my mouth is already watering thinking about it! Do you have any special birthday traditions? I'd love to hear about them!

Funko Fridays: Once Upon A Funko

Oct 16, 2015

Happy Friday, everyone! This week was so draining, I just plain couldn't find the time to write up a 5FF post for today. BUT I'm super excited to participate in the first week of Funko Fridays! I can't wait to see how these prompts evolve over time, and I think we'll have a lot of fun bonding over our favorite vinyl collectibles<3 This week's theme is 'Once Upon A Funko,' and I'm sure I'll be reading a ton of stories about the beginnings of Funko obsessions all over the world today.

My first and only Funkos (so far) are actually Mystery Minis. My little sister bought them for Gary and I two Christmases ago, and I had absolutely no idea what they were. She bought them because we're obsessed with Game of Thrones, and they were a lot of fun to open up! As you can see, we got Tyrion and Robb, but now I'm itching to get all of them. Since they're 'Mystery Minis,' I'm torn between buying them packaged for cheaper (but not knowing which characters I'll be getting), or paying a little extra to buy the characters I actually want (since people open the boxes up and sell the actual Funkos on eBay). I'll probably go with the second option since it's easier, so hopefully I'll have a whole set of Game of Thrones Mystery Mini Funkos to show off on the blog soon=)

So my story is short and sister bought them for my husband and I, none of us knew that they were actually wonderful treasures, now I think they're awesome. I've already bought more but I'm waiting for them to's hard deciding which ones to buy first! There are so many that I love, but since I want to buy ALL THE THINGS, I'll have to pace myself. Next week's theme will be a breeze for me, since it's 'Funko Collections I Want to Complete'...I'll have to figure out how to narrow down my ever-growing list. If you want to check out the upcoming Funko Fridays themes, here you go!

I hope you guys join in on the Funko Fridays fun. We're linking up all of the posts, so check out everyone's first Funko stories on the Funko Fridays website!

Harry Potter Book Tag

Oct 14, 2015

Harry Potter was almost my first fandom, but I think Power Rangers had it beat by a few years. Still though, I remember waiting in line at Barnes & Noble, SO excited for each new book that released. I grew up with Harry, Hermione, and Ron and I considered them some of my favorite people all throughout my childhood and teenage years. I really don't know who I would have grown up to be if I hadn't had them in my life. So obviously I'm thrilled to fill out this Harry Potter tag=) Thanks to Alice from The Geeky Burrow for tagging me!

Favorite book? I love all of them so much, but I would say Goblet of Fire. I've read that one more than any of the other six...I think because I loved the Quidditch Cup portion so much. I had so much fun imagining myself there! AND I remember that being the book where I learned how to pronounce Hermione's name correctly. I had been pronouncing it way wrong up she explained to Krum how it's pronounced, haha.

Least favorite book? Chamber of Secrets. Don't get me wrong, I still love it...I just always thought it was a little boring.

Favorite movie? Prisoner of Azkaban, because I love the direction that Alfonso Caurón took the movies in. I hated it the first time I saw it because so much was cut from the book and I mean, why weren't they wearing their school uniforms anymore? So weird. But now when I rewatch the movies, I really enjoy the artistic bits in the third movie.

Least favorite movie? Hm. I'm not a huge fan of any of them, honestly. I'm one of those people who can't separate adaptations from their book counterparts,..I feel like I didn't even finish Order of the Phoenix? Or Half-Blood Prince for that matter. Meh.

Favorite quote? This one:

Favorite Weasley? Definitely Molly. She's such a badass mama!

Favorite female character? My very favorite, Hermione<3

Favorite villain? I'd say Snape, because even though he wasn't technically a villian, he was a guy I loved to hate almost the entire series.

Favorite male character? Sirius! Gah, I loved him. I cried SO MUCH when he died. I kept thinking he would come back...took me a while to come to terms.

Favorite professor? Hagrid. I talked about him in this post. He only spent a little while as a professor but he really knew his stuff and cared that his students learned about and respected magical creatures.

A. Wash Snape’s hair, or B. Spend a day listening to Lockhart rant about himself. As a kid, Lockhart bugged the crap out of me. But as an adult, I think greasy hair is really icky and I would NEVER touch someone else's hair (except my husband's...and maybe someday when I have a kid?), so I'd suck it up and listen to Lockhart.

Duel A. An elated Bellatrix, or B. An angry Molly
Bellatrix, for sure. I'd love to get a chance to kick her ass.

Travel to Hogwarts via A. Hogwarts Express or B. Flying car
Definitely the Hogwarts Express! I've always wanted to ride it, and though I think a flying car would be a lot of fun, I'd rather sit, read, and eat a chocolate frog.

A. Kiss Voldemort or B. Give Umbridge a bubble bath
I hate Umbridge enough that I pick Voldy.

A. Ride a Hippogriff or B. Ride a Firebolt
Firebolt! I think I'd be awful at it, but it'd be a lot of fun to try (and hopefully not break every bone in my body).

Is there a character which you felt differently about in the movies vs books?
Almost all of them, haha. I guess the biggest person I felt differently about is Harry...I just plain didn't like him as much in the movies as I did in the books. Does that make me a bad Harry Potter fan?

Is there a movie you preferred instead of the book?

Richard Harris or Michael Gambon as Dumbledore?
I thought they were both spectacular as Dumbledore, so I don't prefer one over the other.

Your top thing (person or event) which wasn't included in the movie that annoyed you most?
Okay, I'm not going to choose a person or event. I can't stand that Harry's eyes weren't green! I'm such a whiner, but really, that's the absolute worst.

If you could remake any of the Potter movies, which would it be?
That's a hard question to answer, since I had problems with all of them.

Which house was your first gut feeling you'd be a part of?

Which house were you actually sorted into on Pottermore (or another sorting quiz)?
Hufflepuff! It makes sense, but I'm still a Ravenclaw at heart=P

Which class would be your favourite?
Transfiguration! I know the kids at Hogwarts didn't learn this, but I would love to learn animagus. How fun would it be to turn into an animal at will?!

Which spell do you think would be most useful to learn?
Definitely 'accio' because I'm super super lazy.

Which character do you think at Hogwarts you’d instantly become best friends with?
Probably Fred and George. I always manage to befriend fun guys like them=) I think that because I'm so shy, I'm drawn to charismatic people.

If you could own one of the three Hallows, which would it be?
The invisibility cloak! The most fun option, by far.

Is there any aspect of the books you’d want to change? This can be a character, event, anything.
Well, a lot of people would disagree, but I don't like that Ron and Hermione ended up together. I know, I know, I suck.

Favorite Marauder?
Sirius, most definitely.

If you could bring one character back to life, which would it be?
Sirius </3

Hallows or horcruxes?
Hallows! Horcruxes are really creepy.

And that's it! Man, I feel like I've been working on this for hours. But that's okay, it was fun. I'm going to tag Pepi of dePepi, Angie of A Life More Kawaii, and Laney of Zainey Laney. If you lovely ladies choose to participate, please link up your posts in my comments! I'd love to read your answers<3

On another, totally non-Harry Potter related note, I finally caught up with Doctor Who! I ADORE TWELVE. I can't say I like him more than Ten, but he's a close second. I know he brings a completely different vibe to the show, but Peter Capaldi is such a tremendous actor and I think he's doing something amazing. Does anyone else absolutely love Twelve?

6 on 6: Orange You Glad It's October?

Oct 6, 2015

I can't believe October is here already! My husband's birthday is this month, he'll have lived for a quarter of a century this year. I'm a little older than him and past that milestone, but I still want to celebrate in our own quiet, happy way. Anyway, it's October 6th, so it's time for 6 on 6! October's theme is orange, and even though orange is everywhere this time of year, I did have a pretty hard time taking six decent pictures. I'd like to get more serious about my dSLR...I just get a little overwhelmed with all of the resources online. For now I'm just going to keep tweaking settings until they come out looking alright, but hopefully someday I'll actually know what the different settings are for=P

My little Pokémon plushie collection with Charmander in the lead! I'm hoping to redesign my home and these little guys will be on display in my living room.

Have any of you read The Gone-Away World by Nick Harkaway? It's incredible! So much better than I had been expecting. I read this a couple years ago but it's still burned into my brain. If you like creepy/weird/nonsensical books, this one's for you. By the way, this is what October in Orange County looks like.

Lots of orange beer labels this time of year! I have a couple pumpkin-flavored beers in the background, but I wanted She Shot First by Bottle Logic to be the focus of this shot because it's just so awesomely geeky. Look at her ray gun! Too cute. And of course, it's an homage to our favorite intergalactic smuggler...

Speaking of Star Wars, check out this Halloween-themed Stormtrooper tin! The picture is a little wonky since it's still wrapped in plastic. I'm not keeping this bad boy for myself, unfortunately, but I did still want to snap a shot for today's post!

I don't geek out over sports, but my husband sure does. The Angel's colors are typically red and white, but they give out these special orange and blue hats once a season. I also love the Oktoberfest stein that they gave away last season, since I'm particularly geeky about beer<3
Can you tell yet how much I love beer? I tried homebrewing for the first time last year and had so much fun! My husband and I are going to try to brew up another batch this year, we're just waiting for the weather to cool down a bit (pfft, good luck, Ash).

I can't wait to see all the lovely orange photos around the blogosphere today! If you've never heard of 6 on 6 before, check out the original post here. It's a monthly photo challenge that Emma from Scruffy-Little Nerd Herder started up a couple months back, and it's so much fun=) Hope to see you all join in!
